Holy Crap. I'd Never Heard About The U.S.S. Liberty

Guess I won't hold my breath waiting for Obama to condemn Israel's attack of a Turkish-flagged ship in international waters* carrying civilians and aid supplies**, an attack which resulted in the deaths of over a dozen civilians:

The attack on the USS Liberty is one of the great enigmas of US-Israel relations. On June 8, 1967, in the middle of the Six-Day War, Israeli planes attacked an American spy ship, the Liberty, that was in international waters off the coast of Egypt, listening in on secret communications. The attacks appeared to be deliberate, involving numerous passes on a clearly-marked American boat, strafing and napalming. The attack killed 34 Americans and produced very little by way of investigation. It was deemed an accident from the start, although many American officials doubted this conclusion.

Hell, Turkey was Israel's lone Muslim ally--they even conducted joint military exercises. Talk about Not Giving a Fuck. Of course, when you read about the U.S.S. Liberty it doesn't seem so strange, does it?

**yes, I'm aware they also carried construction supplies clearly intended to shore up settlements in Gaza, but still...
